Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA) launches new Masters programme with UK collaboration

Dubai, UAE, February 3, 2011: Dubai Maritime City based Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA) signed an agreement to collaborate with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, giving a thrust to the maritime education scene in the United Arab Emirates and the MENA region. The programme is an MSc in Marine Technology and is being launched in 2011.

 

EIMA has been established to provide world class maritime education, research and training facilities to the bright and aspiring students from the United Arab Emirates and the region.

 

“The establishment of an Academy that focuses on providing high-quality education and research facilities at their doorstep will definitely encourage students from UAE and the Middle East to seriously think about the maritime sector as a career option. The new programme aims to fill a gap by developing highly qualified maritime professionals and experts to serve the needs and requirements of the maritime industries of the GCC countries and the region beyond,” Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World said.   

 

M Sc in Marine Technology is a two-year part time programme to suit the convenience of working professionals. It can be extended up to three years. The programme comprises ten modules followed by a thesis.

 

The requirement for entry is a relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering, naval architecture or an acceptable science degree with ample professional experience in the shipping industry.

 

The course will be entirely taught by the faculty members of Newcastle University and will be delivered at the Emirates International Maritime Campus in Dubai and is scheduled to start in February 2011.

 

The University of Newcastle upon Tyne has a long and distinguished tradition in the field of maritime education and research offering a wide range of programs including Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering at undergraduate and post graduate levels.
